General

'Consider before you begin' and 'trust is good, but checking is better'

Of course, equipment in the food industry must provide food that is of good quality and safe. In this training you will learn a methodology to ensure that these requirements are met during the purchase, installation and commissioning of new equipment. A methodology that has already proven itself under the name of validation in the pharmaceutical industry!

This process is now also becoming mandatory for IFS Food or BRCGS Food Safety certificate holders via the term commissioning: in the new version (8) of the IFS food standard, the pre-existing requirement is tightened to an obligation for validation, and in version 9- BRCGS Food Safety standard, the requirement of commissioning is introduced for the first time.

Whatever name you give it, the method of working can be briefly summarized with two phrases: 'think before you begin' and 'trust is good, but checking is better', with the aim of discovering and remedying any shortcomings of the new equipment in terms of food safety, product quality, legislation or customer requirements as early as possible during the project of procurement, installation and commissioning.

Target audience

This training is designed for employees involved in setting up new production lines. Consider:

  • QA managers and staff
  • Project managers and staff
  • Validation Engineers
  • Equipment buyers

Target

The purpose of this training course is to teach you a methodology that ensures that checks are carried out in a structured and documented manner throughout the entire process of designing (or purchasing), installing and commissioning new food equipment with regard to food safety, product quality, legislation and customer requirements. Because if you do not check for these until the first commercial production, it is usually difficult (and expensive) or sometimes not even possible to fully correct any defects found.

Topics

During training, the following practices are covered for:

  • Establishing requirements that new equipment must meet
  • Checking the design or offer
  • Devising the checks to be performed during commissioning

In addition, we will cover the methodology for preparation and use of all related documents. And - not unimportantly - also the division of roles throughout the realization process. Both the roles within the company, but also the tasks of the supplier. Because the validation of commissioning is done with a team!
