Food safety culture is getting more and more attention within companies, especially now that it is enshrined in standards and legislation. Unfortunately, improving culture is not something you take care of with a handbook and a procedure. For example, do you feel you have to pull hard on the shop floor on a daily basis to ensure food safety practices and compliance with procedures? Then this training is a good step to improve food safety culture.

In this training of three workshops, we help you to get a better grip on employee behavior. Using the Précon change cycle, you will work on formulating a concrete approach for continuous improvement of food safety in the organization.

A good system with clear procedures alone will not get you there. To convince employees of the need for change and the importance the organization attaches to it, the exemplary behavior of managers is a determining factor. They must not only tell the message, but also spread it by setting a good example themselves. By focusing on desired behavior and having an eye for the four elements from the Change Circle (story, systems, competencies and exemplary behavior) it is possible to bring about real change.

Duration

The three workshops are scheduled at 3-4 week intervals. This allows time and space to come up with a plan of action together, so that the theory is directly put into practice. Each workshop lasts 4 hours and after that it is important to allow time for homework assignments.

Target audience

This training is interesting for chefs, department heads, managers and board members who are busy every day getting a grip on the (food safety) behavior of their employees. In the workshops you will get a good picture of how to better manage the behavior of employees so that their behavior becomes seamlessly aligned with the organization's quality policy. You get tools for a concrete and visible approach to improving the food safety culture in the organization.

Target

The purpose of the training is to arrive at a thorough and effective approach to visibly improve the culture within the company. During this training you will gain knowledge, insight and practical tools that will lead to a plan of action to improve the food safety culture in the organization.

Topics

This training consists of three workshops.

Workshop 1

The first workshop focuses on communicating the company's vision of quality and food safety. You will get answers to the question of what is needed to visibly improve the food safety culture. Using the change cycle, we formulate answers to questions about how the vision is propagated, what changes are needed and what your role is in this. We will discuss how you, as a leader in the organization, can give shape to these changes and how you can support employees in translating the objectives into daily work. As homework you will work on an action plan for your own organization.

Workshop 2

The second workshop focuses on getting a grip on food safety behavior. You will gain insight into how to steer to initiate the desired behavioral change. Experiential learning is central to this. By carrying out an innovative work form, you enter into a discussion with each other about steering for the desired behavior in the organization. This allows you to develop a shared understanding of the mechanisms behind behavior and how to get a grip on them. You will also make the translation to direct application in your own organization. After this workshop you will work on an action plan as homework, which will be a concrete elaboration of the plan of approach.

Workshop 3

The third workshop focuses on how to proceed with the learning points in practice. We look back at the results from the previous sessions and discuss which follow-up steps are necessary to embed the formulated actions in daily practice in order to achieve a mindset of continuous improvement throughout the organization.
