General

The label or website is the place to advertise your product. If your product is healthy or sustainable, you want to let the consumer know about it with a claim or a label. Or by an attractive marketing text. But what can and cannot you claim? And what rules apply to carrying the various labels?

To be able to answer these questions you attend the classroom training on claims, labels and advertising. During the training we alternate theoretical knowledge and background with practical exercises, so that after the training you know which claims or labels apply to your product and you can be sure that you comply with all rules and European legislation.

Besides the differences between nutrition and health claims and the guidelines for various labels, such as the Better Life label and the Planet Proof logo, sustainability claims are also discussed. What can you say about the impact of your product on humans, animals or the environment?

Through many practical examples and by getting started yourself, you will be able to make a legally correct claim for your product, determine which seals of approval apply, and recognize a sustainability claim and test it against the established criteria.

Target

After this training you will be familiar with:

  • consulting and updating on the relevant and latest legislation;
  • the relationships between the legal framework and the interpretations of various stakeholders;
  • deception in relation to images and commercial expressions;
  • The mandatory requirements in various types of claims and labels;
  • formulating legally permitted nutrition and health claims and
  • establishing fair sustainability claims using criteria.

This is a one-day classroom training, including lunch. Each student will receive a certificate of participation at the end of the training.

Target audience

For anyone involved in the design of a food label or website text, such as designers, marketers, product managers, labeling specialists and labelers.

Topics

  • Explanation of European Claims Regulation (Regulation (EU) No. 1924/2008) and how to consult;
  • Drafting health claims using authorized claims and notation;
  • Hallmarks and the rules from the various regulators;
  • Opportunities for sustainability claims on products and packaging and associated criteria.
  • Review packaging, including marketing statements and graphics.

The training is interactive and practical. Specific questions can be submitted prior to the training. The trainer will address this input as much as possible during the training. During one of the practical assignments the participants will consult the legislation via the Internet and learn how to apply this legislation in practice.
