5 E-learning trends for 2018

The e-learning market is growing every year and is constantly evolving. With new technologies and innovations, the approach is changing. Easy access to tablets and mobile devices allows for learning anywhere. What do we expect for 2018?

Microlearning (microlearning)

Heleen: My favorite trend for e-learning in 2018 is microlearning. Microlearning means that you take a small rounded course of about 5 minutes. The advantage is that you don't have to set aside a lot of time to take a course. This allows you to learn exactly what you need and when you need it. Moreover, you can also easily repeat a subject. Thus, an ideal way of learning. Not too much, not too little, but just right.

Learning on demand

Heike: How do I operate this machine again? Learning when it's needed, or: learning on demand, that's my favorite trend for 2018. What I find so interesting about that? The question of what knowledge people really need to do their jobs and how they have this knowledge available to them at the so-called "moment of need.

Gamification (Gamification)

Jesse: I expect more and more from gamification. You see that this is already being used a lot in the e-learning world. Gamification involves adding game elements to e-learning. For example, these can be badges or scores that motivate the learner to learn (more). Because the e-learning becomes more fun, the student also remembers more of the learning material.

LTI

George: My favorite trend for 2018 is LTI. LTI means Learning Tools Interoperability, or collaboration between learning management systems. If your system supports LTI, you can easily access training from different providers from your own portal and directly from your account. Précon's public offerings thus become available to everyone via LTI!

Intelligent assistants

Bart: Whether it will actually take off in 2018 I don't know yet, but in any case I am incredibly curious about it. Will the technology of "voice assistants" now used in your smartphone and "chatbots" like on websites also influence learning? Will we soon be able to ask a question about a (specific) topic and get an automated answer? Definitely something to keep an eye on in 2018 and beyond.
