There have been a lot of developments over the past month about the entry into force of the new European deforestation regulation, also known as the EUDR. It has now become clear that the regulation has been delayed by one year. This means large companies will have to comply by Jan. 1, 2026, and SMEs by June 1, 2026.
Is this reason to sit back and take up this file again at the end of next year? To us, that does not seem wise. The requirements in the EUDR require timely preparation, both in terms of receiving and verifying data and documents from suppliers, and in terms of adapting the internal processes and procedures at the companies themselves, which place or trade the product on the European market towards, for example, retailers or consumers.
