NEN meeting toy safety

Monday, March 18, 2024, the NEN Standards Committee on Toy Safety met for the meeting that takes place twice a year. This time this meeting was held at Précon Consulting Group in Bunnik. In the Dutch standards committee different parties are represented from industry, retail and government/supervisory.

What does the NEN standards committee on toy safety do?

The NEN standards committee for toy safety is responsible for developing and maintaining standards related to toy safety in the Netherlands.

The main tasks of this standards committee include:

  1. Development of standards: they develop standards that specify what requirements toys must meet to be considered safe. These standards can cover various aspects of toys, such as chemical composition, physical and mechanical properties, electrical safety, and so on.
  2. Contributing to international standards: The committee also participates in international working groups and committees to contribute to the development of international toy safety standards, led by ISO.
  3. Regulation and compliance: The standards developed serve as guidelines for manufacturers, distributors and government agencies to ensure that toys placed on the market meet the highest safety standards. This helps protect the health and well-being of children.
  4. Updating standards: The committee regularly updates the standards to reflect new technological developments, materials, production methods and insights into safety.

The NEN Toy Safety Standards Committee plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of toys, helping to protect children from potential hazards that can result from unsafe toys.
