Have you already registered your energy labels in EPREL?

Since Jan. 1, 2019, it has been mandatory for suppliers and manufacturers of energy-labeled products to register them in the European Product Database for Energy Labeling (EPREL). This database was created by the European Commission with the aim of tightening market surveillance of these products. It is estimated that 10% to 25% of all energy-labeled products are not fully compliant with Regulation (EU) 2017/1369 establishing a framework for energy labeling. This regulation was created so that consumers can make informed choices based on the energy use of products. In the first quarter of 2020, the EPREL database will be made publicly available to increase transparency to consumers.

When are you required to register your items in EPREL?

Registratie is verplicht voor producten die u vanaf 1 augustus 2017 op de markt heeft gebracht in de volgende categorieën:

Air Conditioners
Cooking appliances (for domestic use).
Dishwashers (for domestic use).
Ruimteverwarmingen
Lighting
Refrigerators (for domestic use)
Refrigerators (for professional use)
Fuel boilers
Television sets
Dryers
Ventilation units (for domestic use).
Washing machines (for domestic use)

Any products you bring to market after January 1, 2019, you must register before they are actually on the market. Products placed on the market between August 1, 2017 and December 31, 2018 should have been registered by June 30, 2019. An EPREL registration is not required if the products were placed on the market before August 1, 2017.

What information do you need to register in EPREL?

What information you need to enter into EPREL varies by product category, but is broadly similar. You will have to enter or upload the energy label, test reports, technical documentation, product specifications and contact information for all products. In addition, depending on the product category, water consumption, storage capacity and noise emissions, among other things, also apply.

New energy labels as of March 2021.

In addition to the obligation to register in EPREL, Regulation (EU) 2017/1369 also stipulates that from March 2021 the energy labels of the following product groups must comply with new requirements:

Tumble dryers (for domestic use).
Dishwashers (for domestic use).
Washing machines (for domestic use)
Koelkasten en vriezers (voor huishoudelijk en professioneel gebruik)
Lighting
Refrigerators and freezers with direct sales function
Electronic displays

Om de huidige indeling van energie labels, die onduidelijk is door de categorieën A+++, A++ en A+ te verduidelijken zullen de categorieën opnieuw ingedeeld worden: van A tot en met G. Naast het wijzigen van de schaal komt er ook een QR code op de nieuwe labels, waarmee de consument gelijk aanvullende informatie op kan vragen over uw product.

Hoe doe je een EPREL registratie?

1. Verzamel benodigde testrapporten
Vraag, indien nog niet gedaan de testrapporten op bij de fabrikant. Deze rapporten vormen de basis voor de toekenning van de energieklasse aan het product of de producten.
2. Testinformatie ontbreekt of is onvolledig?
Indien de benodigde documentatie niet beschikbaar of onvolledig is, kan er contact worden opgenomen met een gespecialiseerd testinstituut, zoals DEKRA. Zij zijn deskundig op het gebied van energie gerelateerde producttesten.
