Culture Measurement Model.
Food safety standards require not only that you as a company pay attention to food safety culture, the progress you make through the measures taken must also be quantitatively visible. How do you make an abstract concept like food safety culture measurable?
Précon has developed a culture measurement model for this purpose. Using a sophisticated questionnaire, we measure all aspects that are important for the culture and bring this into clear focus.

What does the culture measurement model provide?
- Food safety culture measured quantitatively
- Food safety culture clearly portrayed
- Demonstrated compliance with standards and requirements
- Involves all employees in the culture
- Starting points for improvement actions
- Repeat annually to demonstrate improvement
Our approach.
Step 1
Before we start measuring, we first have an intake meeting. During this meeting, we review together what has already been done in the area of food safety culture, what the company objectives are and collect key data. We also agree on when the questionnaire will be opened and how long it will be available.
Step 2
The next step is to prepare the online questionnaire. Via a link or a QR code, everyone in your company can easily access the questionnaire. We provide standard e-mails for this and a nice A3-sized poster that you can hang up in your company to draw extra attention to employees. Because the more people participate, the better the picture of the culture within the organization will become.
Step 3
The questionnaire can then be completed by all employees. After the closing date, we collect the data and begin analyzing the results. After the analysis, we prepare a clear report with the findings and recommendations.
Step 4
During an advisory meeting, we feed back the results and discuss how the food safety culture is doing. This may reveal the need for improvement in some areas. If that is the case, we make recommendations as to which actions can help. In the end, you yourself, possibly with our support, will make a plan of action.

Frequently asked questions.
Legislation and certification standards require that food safety culture be made demonstrable. Précon's culture measurement model makes culture insightful and thus demonstrable for the standard.
A culture measurement is the first time a baseline measurement: it shows where you are as an organization. It gives insight into the role of management, team leaders and employees, shows whether communication about food safety is effective, whether people are addressed when things are not going well and whether practice in the organization corresponds to policy.
After a while, the culture measurement can be repeated to understand the effect of improvement measures.
Our culture measurement model can be used as a baseline measurement to gauge perceived food safety culture. But it can also serve as a follow-up measurement to gauge the effectiveness of the measures taken. This gives you a good picture of whether the efforts have had the desired effect and where new improvements are desired.
Yes, if you want to do a good measurement of the culture within an organization, it is precisely important that all employees in the organization give their opinions on this. For the culture measurement to be relevant, all functions and layers of the organization must be equally represented. Only then will it become visible where things are going well and where improvement is necessary.
Précon makes an online questionnaire available to all employees. Through a QR code or through a link in an e-mail, they can access the questionnaire. Précon provides a poster with QR code and email texts with the link to the questionnaire. Employees can complete the questionnaire on their own laptop, tablet or mobile.
