Last week the Nutri-Score was all over the news because it will also become the only food choice logo allowed on food packaging in the Netherlands. Quasydoc, our online QA software, is all ready for it! If you want to use the Nutri-Score, Quasydoc can automatically make the calculation for you.
Nutri-Sore is a food choice logo. That means it is a logo by which consumers can see at a glance whether a product is a healthy choice or not. It does refer to choice within a product group, so snacks may be compared to each other, but not pizza to tea.
Each product receives plus points for fruits and vegetables, fiber and protein and minus points for salt, saturated fatty acids, sugar and calories. These points are entered into a formula to arrive at a final score that ranges between a green A and a red E. A different calculation is made for beverages, cheese and fat products, such as oil and butter.
Quasydoc is an online quality management system for the food industry. You can use this system to manage all your raw materials, recipes and specifications, as well as your supplier data, complaints and documents. You can start up this system module by module and expand it step by step. Précon can help you implement and use it properly and efficiently.
You enter all the data of your raw materials in Quasydoc once, and then you build recipes with these raw materials. Quasydoc automatically calculates the nutritional values, the allergens present and the Nutri-Score of your products. If you make a recipe change, you can immediately see what effect this has on the Nutri-Score.
Listing the Nutri-Score will not be mandatory (for now), but it can be a great marketing tool for your products. You can use the same food choice logo in Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland and Spain, as Nutri-Score has been chosen there as well.
In the Netherlands, the Nutri-Score will become legal from mid-2021, but in other participating countries it may already be used now. However, some large companies are expected to put pressure on the Dutch government to bring the effective date forward here as well.
