After more than a year, FSSC 22000 is publishing an updated version of the standard, version 5.1.
The main reasons for an updated version are compliance with the latest Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) benchmark requirements and more stringent requirements for certification body (CB) performance as part of continuous improvement.
Key changes include specific requirements for multi-site certification, product design and development, and food safety culture. Food safety culture requirements cover communication, training and employee performance measurement. Since the ISO 22000: 2018 standard already covered these topics, a guidance document with guidelines was issued to demonstrate how these requirements are met.
According to the Board of stakeholder decision list, the standard will become active as of April 1, 2021.
