Changes GMP+ Feed Certification Scheme

Last December 15, 2023, GMP+ International announced improvements in the GMP+ Feed Certification Scheme documents and the publication of two new normative documents.

The biggest changes in the GMP+ Feed Safety Assurance and Feed Resposibility Assurance requirements are in the following topics:

  • Procurement
  • Round Table on Responsible Soy (RTRS) production and trade.
  • Responsible swine and poultry feed
  • GMO

The two new normative documents in the GMP+ Feed Responsibility Assurance that have been published are about:

  1. Carbon footprint of animal feed: this document is published to calculate the carbon footprint (CFP) of animal feed at compound feed companies. This document is a pilot and is only applicable to Dutch compound feed companies.
  2. Production and trade of responsible feed: this was developed to ensure the production and trade of responsible soy (including deforestation-free). These are initial preparations for the entry into force of the EU deforestation regulation (EUDR).

The changes can also be seen in the following document on the GMP+ international website. See: https://gmpplus.org/media/4gbfi2n5/s-9-1-en-20240101.pdf

These requirements can be applied by GMP+ certified companies and Certification Bodies from January 1, 2024 and should be implemented by January 1, 2025 at the latest.
