BRCGS Packaging Materials version 7 mandatory from April 28, 2025

Last October, version 7 of the BRCGS Packaging Materials standard was published. As of April 28, 2025, audits will be conducted according to this version.

What does BRCGS Packaging Materials entail?

BRCGS Packaging Materials is designed for companies that supply packaging to food producers. In addition to these food packaging producers, the standard is also used by producers of packaging for all applications at all levels of the supply chain (such as cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and for single-use products such as napkins). The standard is recognized worldwide by brand owners, retailers, suppliers, traders, food service companies and manufacturers.

The standard supports:

Operational production of safe packaging materials and related products;
Manage product quality and meet customer requirements;
meet legal obligations and consumer/user protection.

What are the changes in version 7?

Develop a product safety culture at the certified site.
Changes regarding hazard analysis and risk assessment in line with Codex Alimentarius guidelines.
Audit options: possibility for combined audits with other standards (both on-site and remote).
Change in scope: certification of single-use products widely used in the food service sectors, provided they share the same production process as packaging materials.
Changes in management commitment, continuous improvement and in management reporting.
Improved supplier monitoring and traceability.
Adaptation to site requirements and environmental monitoring.
